Karur is situated about 70 km from Tiruchirappalli
town and is a District headquarters. The excavation results have thrown valuable light on the identification of this place
as an important trade centre.
The important findings are several potsherds with Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions assignable to the beginning of the
Common era. The inscribed potsherds were found along with Roman Amphorae and rouletted
ware of Mediterranean origin.
