Kovalanpottal

Kovalanpottal is situated at Pazhanganatham, a hamlet of Madakulam Village in South Madurai circle of Madurai District. A tradition says that Silapathikaram hero Kovalanís decapitation took place here.  The excavation was conducted in the year 1980 to probe into the antiquarian value of this spot.

The most significant among the findings in trench No.1  were the three large urns. One urn was thrown open, and inside was found a skull, the bones of human beings and potteries. A square copper coin carrying the figure of a fish on one side was also found at 45 cm depth.
