HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

This temple was built by Uttama Cholan in 985 A.D. and an inscription found in this temple has historical significance, refer this temple as ‘Therkirundha Nakkar Koil’ This inscription also refer o one diety called ‘karaikal chola Pillayas’, whose sculpture can be seen in the ardhamandapa-Devakosta. This temple is also called “Gowsikeswarar temple temple” by the local people.
