GRANARY- TIRUPALAITHURAI

HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

Granary of Palaivananathar Swamy temple, at Papanasam was constructed during the Nayak period by the Thanjavur Nayak King Ragunatha (CE 1600-1634). This 36 feet height granary is circular in shape at the bottom and conical at the top. It has three openings one is at the lower end, second at the center and the third at the top. Approximately 3000 kalams of grain can be stored in this granary.
