HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

Ponnezhilnathar temple is now called as Poondi Arugar Temple by the local people. It was constructed with the Architectural style of Chola period.

Even though it is a jain temple it has been build with the southern cultural style. The song inscription of Sambuvarayan denotes this temple named as “Veera Veera Jeenalayam”.
