HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

A group of sculptures of seven mother goddesses placed in a single row is called Sapthamadhar. Two male deities, Virabadhra and Ganesha, also find place in this group. The Sapthamadhar sculptures seen here also include a sculpture of Sun God. These belong to the period of later Pallavas (9th century CE).
