HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

Here, a big natural cave is found in which more than 50 stone beds are carved. On the brow of this cave three Brahmi inscriptions are engraved. These are dated to 1^stcentury BCE. These inscriptions give the names of the individuals who scooped out these beds.

Pakanur, an ancient village, which is located near Solavandan, is also mentioned. A 9^th century figure of Mahavira is also carved on a nearby rock with vatteluthu inscription.
