HISTORICAL BACKGROUNDS :

This tank is believed to have been built about 16th - 17th century CE, by a local Chieftain called Chinnayan. Events from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata as well as landscape scenes are well depicted in the steps and parapet wall of this square tank. Erotic scenes not found anywhere else in the State are a unique feature of these sculptures.
